Is Project Management really industry Neutral?
Project management is the application of skills, tools, techniques, and awareness to project activities to meet the project requirements. Project management is all about: 1. Initiating, 2.Planning, 3. Executing, 4. Monitoring & Controlling, 5. Closing. All types of management activities are related to these, of course. But project management carries an exclusive focus formed with the schedule, resources and goals of each project. It comprises a systematic methodology to planning and guiding project progressions from start to end.
Though, Projects and project management processes diverge from industry to industry. Still, Project management is “accomplished” by working with and through people. People who can cope and lead a team are rare. Projects are distinct to activities, necessitating people to come together momentarily to concentrate on specific project purposes. The main goal is to alter a process, to offer a product, or to solve a difficulty in order to benefit the system. As a result, effective teamwork is central to successful Projects. Project management is concerned with working on discrete packages of work to achieve objectives.
Can a Project Manager Manage Any Damn Project?
There is no straight yes or no response here, since it is an operation of the job domain, individual traits, among numerous other factors. Yet – it is astonishing how many people would jump and say yes or no with total authority and certainty. There are conjoint concepts that cross trades and various domains. However, each domain has its unique approach, features and applications. For example, the project life cycle for a real estate development project is different from an industrial, marketing, pharmaceuticals, training, software development, technology or other domains. Some domains require only a short-term and small team resource, other may need hundreds, if not thousands of individuals and years to finish. The Project Management needs a working familiarity of the surroundings.
The issue of neutrality and collaboration between different Industries like Construction, manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, telecom, IT & software, etc. is difficult, but a professional with the ability to motivate and manage a team of delivery specialists and technical effectively can effectively execute the project strategy. Professionals with their knowledge and skills can make it Industry neutral. The worth of that focus is proved by the rapid, worldwide growth of project management as a standard and strategic structural competence, as a matter for training and development or as a career path. And same could be learnt from various Project Management Curriculums.
